Conclusion
In conclusion to this project, we have learned much about the evolution of the handgun. We have learnt how difficult it was to reload an old flintlock pistol and how dangerous it was to fire a pepperbox revolver. We learnt how much Colt's design of the locking pawl for the revolver revolutionized firearms and almost all of modern warfare. With Colt's amazing design, we saw how it transitioned to the double-action revolvers which simplified Colt's revolver by simultaneously cocking the hammer as you pulled trigger. Finally the double-action revolver transformed into the either single or double-action semi-automatic pistol with an entirely new way of loading the gun and firing it. Finally we looked briefly into the machine pistols of the late 19th to early 20th century, where larger clip sizes and faster rates of fire sometimes meant winning a firefight.
